Editorial note
This page exists so readers can see how we separate reporting from opinion, how we handle commercial relationships, and how we decide whether a page is strong enough to publish.
What we optimize for
Instasupport is built for operators, not for passive pageviews. That changes how we write. We aim to publish pages that help someone make a better decision, reduce a real implementation mistake, or understand the tradeoffs behind a tool, tactic, or benchmark.

Our bias is toward usefulness
We would rather publish a narrower page with stronger judgment than a broader page that says very little. A page should earn its place by helping a reader decide, compare, implement, or avoid a mistake.
What we publish
Different page types require different standards. We do not treat a niche guide, a benchmark page, a ranked comparison, and a tools page as interchangeable content.
Guides explain how something works, where teams get stuck, and what tradeoffs matter in practice.
Comparisons evaluate products or approaches against explicit criteria and should make ranking logic visible.
Benchmarks contextualize performance data and should explain source limitations, sample caveats, and interpretation risks.
Niche playbooks translate broad platform advice into category-specific operational decisions.
Tools and calculators should explain assumptions, not just output a number.
If a page cannot be made meaningfully more useful than the average search result, we should not publish it.
How we handle sources and citations
We cite external sources when a claim depends on data, policy, regulation, methodology, or facts that may change over time. We try to use the most direct source available rather than citing secondhand summaries when the primary source is accessible.
Our default source hierarchy is:
- Primary sources such as official documentation, filings, rules, or first-party data
- Credible technical or research sources with clear methodology
- Reputable industry reporting when primary material is unavailable or incomplete
- Our own analysis, clearly labeled as analysis
We avoid using citations as decorative trust markers. A citation should support a meaningful claim, not create the appearance of rigor where none exists.
We also try to make citations useful. That means putting them near the claim they support, not dropping a vague source list at the bottom of the page and expecting the reader to reverse-engineer the logic.
How comparison pages are evaluated
Comparison pages should not be disguised promotion pages. We aim to make the evaluation logic legible enough that a reader could disagree with our weighting but still understand how we reached the conclusion.
Most comparison pages consider a subset of these criteria:
- core feature fit for the stated use case
- ease of setup and day-two usability
- pricing clarity and likely total cost
- technical depth and flexibility
- merchant or operator support burden
- evidence of product maturity, maintenance, and adoption
- limitations, lock-in risk, or meaningful tradeoffs
We prefer explicit tradeoffs over fake neutrality. A strong comparison page should tell the reader not just which option is good, but for whom it is good, when it is overkill, and where it breaks down.
No pay-to-win rankings
Commercial relationships do not buy placement, first-position rankings, or category inclusion. If a product is included for editorial reasons and also has a commercial relationship with us, that relationship should be disclosed clearly.
How benchmark pages are built
Benchmark pages are easy to make misleading. A single number without context often creates bad decisions. We therefore try to show what the number means, what it does not mean, and what conditions shape interpretation.
Benchmark pages should usually make the following visible:
- who produced the data or estimate
- what population or sample the number comes from
- what time period it covers
- whether the figure is an average, median, range, or modeled estimate
- what important segments may behave differently
- what a merchant should compare alongside the headline metric
We treat benchmark pages as decision-support pages, not trivia pages. The goal is not to give readers one impressive number to repeat. The goal is to help them avoid misdiagnosis.
How we distinguish fact, inference, and opinion
Readers should be able to tell whether they are looking at a sourced fact, an interpretation, or a point of view.
Fact: a statement grounded in a cited source or directly observable material
Inference: a reasoned conclusion drawn from facts, patterns, or multiple sources
Opinion: our judgment about what is better, riskier, overrated, or more appropriate for a use case
We do not think opinion is a problem. Hidden opinion is a problem. A page can be strongly argued and still be transparent about where the evidence ends and judgment begins.
How affiliate and product promotion works
Commercial relationships should be disclosed near the decision point, not hidden in a footer or on a distant disclosure page. If a page contains affiliate links, sponsorship, referral relationships, or other meaningful commercial incentives, we should say so in a way a normal reader will actually notice and understand.
Editorial pages can recommend products, but the evaluation logic should remain clear to readers. Compensation should not determine whether a product is reviewed, how it is ranked, or whether tradeoffs are described.
Our default promotion rules are simple:
- disclose material relationships clearly and close to the recommendation
- do not present ads or sponsor language as neutral editorial judgment
- do not claim hands-on experience we do not actually have
- do not use fake scarcity, fake consensus, or misleading “best” framing
- do not hide negative tradeoffs because a product is commercially valuable
Disclosure should be hard to miss
A disclosure is only useful if a reader is likely to see it before or while evaluating the recommendation.
AI-assisted drafting and editorial control
We may use AI-assisted tools during research, outlining, synthesis, or drafting, but AI output is not treated as a source of truth. Pages should be reviewed, edited, and quality-checked by a human before publication.
We do not consider “an AI said it” to be evidence. Any factual claim that matters to the reader should still be verified against a real source where appropriate.
We also do not assume AI-assisted content is automatically low quality or automatically high quality. The standard is the same either way: originality, usefulness, accuracy, and clear editorial responsibility.
Corrections, updates, and freshness
Some pages age faster than others. Product comparisons, benchmark pages, pricing references, policy discussions, and platform-specific implementation guides can go stale quickly. We therefore treat freshness as part of quality, not as a cosmetic date field.
When a page is updated, we try to reflect that transparently by:
- showing a visible last-updated date
- revising stale facts, screenshots, links, and product details
- rewriting conclusions when the market or platform reality has changed
- correcting material errors rather than silently leaving them in place
Minor copy edits do not always justify a new editorial judgment. Material changes do. If a page’s recommendation, benchmark interpretation, or product inclusion changes, the updated version should reflect that honestly.

This page is most useful when linked from comparison pages, benchmark pages, review roundups, sponsored or affiliate-influenced pages, and any page that asks readers to trust our evaluation logic.

Do affiliate relationships change how pages are ranked or written?
They should not. Commercial relationships need to be disclosed, but they do not replace evaluation logic or evidence. A page is only credible if readers can see how the conclusion was reached and why tradeoffs were weighed the way they were.
How do you update pages when source data changes?
Pages should be revised when the underlying facts, product details, policies, or methodology materially change. Some pages age faster than others, so updates should follow the volatility of the topic rather than a cosmetic publishing cadence.
How do you use AI in the editorial process?
AI can help with drafting, synthesis, and structure, but it does not replace source checking or editorial judgment. Final responsibility for claims, framing, and usefulness stays with the publication.
